Local Shopping Near Raquette Lake

The shopping up here is half the fun: a general store on the water, a hardware store you can get lost in, and bookshops full of Adirondack history.

You will not find malls in the central Adirondacks, and that is the point. What you will find are stores that have outfitted camps, cabins and campers for generations — places to pick up a fishing lure, a pair of wool socks, a local history book and a bag of maple candy in one stop.

Stocking the Cabin

Inlet has a full grocery store and is much closer than Old Forge — about 20 minutes from the cabin — so it is the easy place for a big grocery run. The general store in the hamlet covers the basics in between.

Right in Town

The Raquette Lake Hotel & Tap Room is only a few hundred yards from the cabin — an easy walk for a drink or a bite — and the Raquette Lake Library is close by too, for a rainy-day book or a little quiet.
